The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 全片大概有十段精彩的歌舞 摄影也很美 看得非常享受 电影本身倒没啥好评价的 希望白雪公主的音乐也好好做 让Zegler小姐唱满两个小时👏

导演水平比前作是突飞猛进。但斯皮包对原作的种族议题理解实在是完全不在乎，以至于买椟还珠地拍成了土味《罗密欧与朱丽叶》
开场就觉得很奇怪 原来是歌舞片 我老婆弃剧不给投屏了我也就看不完了 但不看就不看了吧 两星给服装美术道具

因为被那样美好的你爱着，镜子里的我才如此美丽。因为在舞会遇见美丽的你，高楼上的我才停止坠落。爱需要诚心祈祷，令平庸枯燥的生命变得充满意义。爱可以攀上窗台，让平凡无奇的世界变得星光璀璨。爱会经受不同肤色的火拼，不同帮派的殴斗，经受仇恨的枪射出的荒唐子弹，在鲜血染红的盐厂上永不消亡。

服化道声光电布景都很厉害，经典歌曲的演绎很好。但是Rachel Zegler担不起女主，像一个菲佣。全班主演拉垮，故事也很传统很中二，很蠢。Steven Spielberg一副王炸玩砸了。
斯皮尔伯格继《大白鲨》《第三类接触》《人工智能》后第n次让我失望，老斯导演的调度能力自然不必多提，只是他的剧本每次的脑残程度都能让我汗颜不止。新版《西区故事》的选角是毁灭性的，我万万没想到我堂堂的里夫成了一个说话声像小鸡崽子尖声细语，还没手下有阳刚之气声音大，真是气死。斯皮尔伯格《西区故事》的选角可媲美张艺谋在《长城》中的选角。
全方位的过时甚至让人感觉魔幻，比赛式的调度，平面画报式的美术，样板戏式的人物和故事设计，高技术模仿秀，不好意思但是放在今时今日，可以说是难看又难听。
一部非常'美國'的電影，不論是百老匯原著或'波多黎各人vs.(貧民)白人'的衝突，都考驗觀眾對於文化和歷史的了解 (以及西班牙語聽力…30%西語對白無字幕)… 片尾打上'ForDad'，可見其中藏著Spielberg的私人記憶及情懷… 但就電影本身來看，群戲調度/燈光/攝影/美術等技術面還算可以，表演(尤其男女主)和劇情就一言難盡了 (如果不是因為'羅密歐與朱麗葉'的故事原型，單看這個文本 女主就是個傻白甜'戀愛腦' 讓人很難共情…)… 相比LaLaLand或Annette(近年比較受到影展肯定的歌舞片)，音樂和舞蹈層面，也不算出彩 (舞臺劇粉輕噴)… 156分鐘體感3小時以上… (松仁威秀Titan廳)
puddle shot/ gym dance/ rumble kill 换三种镜头 零角度剪辑 表现主义美学等等做作的处理方法和“声音”层面的不耐受以及 Tony 的全程尬演烂唱都是煎熬 只有 Anita 在 Valentina 店里遭遇暴行那场戏有意义 有力量 值得跨越时代 抛弃白人傲慢来继续反复讲述 再有就是呈现拉美裔大家庭好呢 还是更原教旨的由波多黎各人来饰演 来编写 来拍摄波多黎各人街区的故事更恰当呢 _(:з)∠)_ p.s. 希望那些恬不知耻玩笑也好真情也罢的呼吁“别再歧视好莱坞男白人”的东西可以闭嘴 否则只能展示自己懦弱可怜的姿态
调度和光影变换真的是牛逼，但叙事和演员气质的不符真的很减分。
电影拍得相当工整，大师出品，品质之选。就个人不喜欢这个故事，纽约移民区现代版罗密欧与朱丽叶~~也就算了，移民冲突矛盾这个美国标签就好不了了也不提了，故事里满山满谷智商为负的男性角色实在有碍观瞻，这是一部隐性的女权电影吧。
斯皮尔伯格导得很好，男女配（哥哥和嫂子）的舞挺好看的，而且哥哥帅！男主女主的歌舞（特别是舞）太差了，而且有很多时候是很尬的歌舞...不过归根结底我觉得是这个故事本身太无法让我很难喜欢吧，歌也是...再者灯光有点有力过猛了，失真严重且破坏美感。
完全浪费时间，看过那么多歌舞片，这是第一个毫无美感的～曾经才华横溢的老斯，近些年真是越来越平庸

所以你看，也不能太过指责现在的年轻一代不看电影，而钟情两分钟小视频——连影响了整整一代人的大神斯皮尔伯格都把电影拍成这种样子了，现代电影还谈什么大师魅力与社会影响力？
