The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 剧情挺老套的, 传奇的下一代继续成为传奇. 感觉是轻轻松松靠基因取胜而不是hard work.
片名翻译的多少有点问题，我觉得叫怪兽摔跤手更合适一点。故事本身是一个温馨简单的成长类，结构完整，笑点也够。缺点是，角色的动机都挺奇特的，而且“父辈的阴影”这个有点怪。开场的怪物剪影很不错。但是龙头怪设计的太差了，很烦。略平庸。
不是，共舞那里还挺涩的（。）

《雨人》和《死亡医生》的导演嘛。。黑白总是和那段历史很配，任何彩色的纳粹演绎总是有一种解构的感觉。
对美式少儿动漫和简单朴素真善美没有抵抗力，摔跤题材我也喜欢（虽然真的很浅），话说女主长得就很IG网红。
很燃！两位父亲的失踪，是不是预示着还有第二部～很用心的设计人物和细节，两个宝贝和我一起看得很开心，片尾曲还一起跳了舞。被瞧不起？
为了节奏，逻辑就可以如此生硬，做工也过于流水线了，图一乐呵吧。
题材很好，拍和剪辑得有点糟糕，少数片段拍不错，导演是不是步子跨太大了

尽量文明的评论：辣眼睛。单线条的叙事，故事设计老套，毫无悬念，逻辑糟糕。顶级教练的女儿，轻而易举的成了顶级教练；顶级怪兽的儿子，轻而易举的拿到金腰带，双双走上人生巅峰。天生神力？遇到困难，念几句心灵鸡汤，然后就被克服了。全市居民都围着这两个“后代”欢呼、雀跃。众星拱月一般跟在主角后面从一个成功，走向下一个成功。我打开头就知道你们会成功，但别成功的这么“理直气壮”、“摧枯拉朽”好吧？整部片子一丁点的悬念都没有，直到最后一秒结束。

虚构的怪物摔跤世界，就是完全复刻了美国的体育联盟，哈哈，但是细节很到位。吹毛求疵的装B侠怎么都在豆瓣？怎么着也没比当年疯狂动物城差太多吧。7.5+没问题。让我来稀释一下豆瓣里煞笔的浓度吧。
