伊萨克在片中给出了今年最沉入角色内心深处的表演之一，引人入胜、功力深厚。但施拉德“几年如一日”般地让自己被统摄在布列松的阴影之下，近乎痴迷地反复模仿；以及仍旧重复着那些暴力创伤应激、道德的绷与崩、自毁倾向、极端主义与极权控制等母题，这些题旨被近乎痴迷地反复书写。不能说不好，就是太重复，是施拉德第N次重复《出租车司机》，情节、人物关系全部如出一辙，但又由于反复太多次而导致有所失准，力度上也不如前作。
牌局与社会进程共行，人可以离去，赌注但不能停。孤寂的新地形摄影延伸至电影，从影调到白色幕布，它们概括的不止是现代社会本身，还包括经济下一系列的衍生物。话说没风格就是最大的风格，而21世纪的人类恰巧就属于前者，但当视角转移到酷刑方面，人类却充满了“创意”，那我怎么能用“动物性”来描述幕布后的血腥呢？

Schrader donne ici une masterclass de comment filmer le vide en plaçant au centre de son film une figure évidée incarnée majestueusement par un Oscar Isaac glacial au visage presque figé inexpressif. Comme un fantôme du passé traumatisant qui hante le présent, le héro ne cesse d'errer dans des lieux publics impersonnels ambiancés par une mise en scène sèche et sidérante. Conte cruel dans une Amérique sans échappatoire ni rédemption possible.
能理解导演想表达的意思，许多镜头设计也很好，看了许多评论，确实导演反类型，反高潮的风格，不是我的菜。
7.5 导演拯救剧本。并非如通常般着重展现赌牌、监狱、报仇这样充满“男子气概”重头戏，转而聚焦情感的流动表达。

一位孤寂神秘的男人，一个始终不能遗忘的过去阴影，一种自我毁灭的倾向，连同一个作为背景的有争议的社会议题……它可以是《夜行者》、《你从未在此》、或者导演自己的《出租车司机》，抑或本片。感觉这类电影的成败主要在于一位迷人的主演，在这一点上，本片的主演不负所望。一个天赋异禀的男人之所以能做到抗拒人性不成为一个赌徒，乃是因为他心中有着更大的愤怒和空洞。
摄影有布列松那味，但是一看到男主屁股那么大就又……不是那味。长镜头监狱那段，真的挺帅。
5/10给我这种观影体验的今年只有两部，一部是《算牌人》，一部是《热带往事》。自带一种迷人的氛围，但这种氛围究其根本却让人觉得冗长无比。影片有一股日式黑暗的氛围（导演曾拍摄过《三岛由纪夫传》），由一个糜烂的创口开始过往，一切如图鱼眼镜头般变形成不可逆转。扑克牌牵扯一种连锁反应，和故事形成轴转体系，但故事如此朴素真不应该。
只拍了一个月就杀青了， 这个水平可以理解。

是导演很私人很纯粹的电影，大赞极简不浮夸不炫技的摄影，表达欲即便被主观镜头牢牢框住也要溢出屏幕了。where's oscar's oscar anyway
