The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 每个人干好自己的工作就好了，有的人爹味很浓，有的人妈味很浓，电影中能和解的始终只是电影，现实中可能就互爆真名报复了。
即使是构建的屏幕乌托邦，现实如果能朝向它迈出小小的一步也很棒啊。感觉就像一桶火药，等待着火焰的到来。～
这电影放到中国拍，斯琴高娃和彭于晏演，炸不炸？

人物关系真是玩出花了，服务员客户、老师学生、母亲儿子、朋友陌生人，四次招妓从肉体渐入心灵，逐步融化彼此之间的隔膜和各自最在意的心结，假借这些身份的特点和变换，实际完成解放自己、正视性爱、自我和解等大主题的表达和探讨，而且台词太妙了，很有意思
最松弛的一刻，才能抵达高潮。于是对老年生活充满了信心
看看人家，再看看咱们这，传出来的都是富婆快乐球，金箍棒，火焰山... ... 素质，素质！

线条好极了
小巧玲珑的封闭空间话剧电影，甚有同类型波兰斯基那烹调手艺但更松软易咀嚼，这类电影能否出彩非常考验编剧功力，这位名叫Katy Brand的女性编剧显然功力了得。故事表以围绕女性主义话题展开，意图探讨中年女性的生理焦虑与存在价值复归等问题，次文本却巧妙构建了一对关系微妙且意志对立，时刻处于紧张关系的泛“母子”形象，从窥视到反目，再到打开心扉促膝长谈，最终化脐带于玉帛，达成双向的尊重与理解，成全彼此并重新审视自我的余生。尽管将一场理想化的性交易解读为“母子”羁绊大和解确实略显恶趣味，但相比为人母的大婶帮助帅鸭卸下“伪装”与原生家庭的重负，为人子的帅鸭带给大婶的身心救济才能更显说服力，如此也佐证了片名的祝福为何留给的是Leo，而不是Nancy。身型会走形经血会干涸， 唯有永恒的母性亘古史今 w/阳
四段见面，破碎的灵魂碰撞后慢慢修补，治愈后相忘于江湖，很美好~人人都想身边有个里奥吧！！！
虽然过于理想化，过于干净和体面……但是内核，关于女性的自我探索不受年龄的限制，这一点很重要。
非常非常棒，细节决定成败。
