The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 威尔史密斯若没在奥斯卡颁奖礼上扇人一巴掌，可能不会关注这片。全剧关注父权、女权、种族歧视等话题，但总觉得浅尝辄止，今年的奥斯卡好几部美国梦的电影了，连续看下来有点腻。其实体育迷知道威廉姆斯姐妹后来取得的成绩更精彩，可惜电影表现的故事结束的较早。

别的也说不出啥，我每次都被这种励志电影感动的稀里哗啦，只要努力成功，果真会得到所有人的认可和尊重。国王理查德确实是够专制，但是他确实是走的一条好路。
《20世纪女人》的伦理有多个视角所以还相对有趣，这回只有一个视点就太单调了

真人真事奇人奇事，男主不喜欢别人称俩女儿的成功是奇迹，不可思议。因为在他看来是理所当然，必然的。不具备可复制性。父亲对女儿深情流露那一段很感人，威尔史密斯演了一个偏执狂父亲，让人又爱又恨的那种，了不起
就有点无聊，看不大进去，最有意思的是出现同时代其他网球巨星的时候，桑普拉斯啊格拉芙啊罗迪克什么的，因为我自己就是差不多从这些人开始看网球的，所以感觉还挺亲切。老威这个教育理念是真的不错，不过不知道存不存在美化的成分哈！

5.0分。一个培养出两个「谷爱凌」的父亲形象，居然可以被讲述得如此乏味单薄流水账，父女之间、姐妹之间那点事儿都没讲透，就忙着往种族议题上靠，拿了奥斯卡六项提名又如何？不过更加直接地暴露了这部电影的投机者嘴脸，以及奥斯卡（美国电影）的江河日下。
